✂️⚡️Upcoming Residency: The Mayo Based Artist Residency at INTERFACE⚡️✂️
December 7th - 13th 2025,
At:
INTERFACE
The Hatchery,
Cloonnacartan,
Recess,
Co. Galway,
H91 VW58

I am delighted to have been accepted to onto the Mayo Based Artist Residency at Interface Inagh. I have always admired this organisations commitment to exploring the intersection between the arts and science. Interface is based out of a defunct Salmon Hatchery and embedded in the awe inspiring landscape of Inagh Valley. This feels like the perfect time and place to complete my Lexicon of Wonder project which itself combines visual art, poetry and research psychology to bring people back into a sense of awe and wonder at scientific investigation and the natural world.

For more about INTERFACE see below:
” Interface is a studio and residency programme for visual artists, dancers, writers and musicians, situated in the Inagh Valley, in the heart of Connemara. Our mission is to provide catalyzing opportunities for artists to develop work and engage with others through a unique platform that explores the intersections between scientific research and art.

The studio is located in premises shared with the Inagh Valley Trust, which drives a number of innovative scientific research projects in the Inagh Valley. Interface offers artists an opportunity to engage with a unique environment and to be inspired by the exciting research taking place in a spectacular landscape.

The facility was built as a salmon hatchery in the late 1980s. Scott Tallon Walker architects were commissioned by Carrolls cigarette company to design the biggest, most advanced salmon hatchery in the world. The facility was bought by the current owners in 2007 with a view to developing a centre of scientific research and development.”

With much thanks to AbbVie, as this opportunity was made possible through their Community Responsibility Committee in support of a Co.Mayo based artist.

🔸🔹🔸 COLLAGE & ILLUSTRATION: FRANKENSTIEN RESIDENCY - AUGUST - OCTOBER 2023🔸🔹🔸

🔸🔹🔸 COLLAGE & ILLUSTRATION: FRANKENSTEIN RESIDENCY - AUGUST - OCTOBER 2023🔸🔹🔸

I am absolutely delighted to have been accepted to take part in the Kolaj Intitute's Collage & Illustration Residency which is focused on Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and hosted by the illustrious Kolaj Institute over the course of August - October 2023.

If you follow my work you may have had the dire misfortune of witnessing the frightening annual Rare Monster Sighting reports posted every October, and will know that I am very interested in the intersection between visual art, poetry and literature, and how these different creative practices can act as engines to spur each other on. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has been a joy to research and is so much more than a gothic horror novel. The novel itself is a poigniant reflection on the danger of humanities efforts to subjugate nature through science and technology; but also on loss, abandonment, alienation, loneliness and at times the restorative power of relationship. Its a novel of great depth and as we have started to share our ideas on the residency new perspectives and nuances arise.
⚡️!!! IT’S ALIVE !!!⚡️

The organisers have this to say:
"During the Collage & Illustration Residency – Frankenstein, artists will work to visually interpret Mary Shelley’s 1818 proto-science fiction novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. As part of Kolaj Institute’s ongoing Collage & Illustration project, this virtual residency aims to explore the themes of creation, identity, and the boundaries of human imagination through the captivating mediums of collage and illustration. Kolaj Institute will publish Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus using the illustrations made during the residency as a way of bringing this important, historical book and the themes it raises to 21st century readers. A selection of artwork will be exhibited at Kolaj Institute in New Orleans. "

Residency: Poetry & Collage hosted by the Kolaj Institute - March 2022

March 6, 2022 Anthony D Kelly

🔸🔹🔸POETRY & COLLAGE RESIDENCY - MARCH 2022🔸🔹🔸

I am absolutely delighted to have been accepted to take part in the Kolaj Intitute's Poetry & Collage Online Residency hosted by the illustrious Kolaj Magazine over the course of March.

If you follow my work you will know that I really enjoy to pair visual work with both poetry and short stories. I am really excited to take part in this programme over the course of March, to meet the other international artists, writers and poets, listen to their perspectives and see their work; and of course to learn new things about the vibrant intersection between the written word and visual art.

The organisers have this to say:
"It says something that in the Poetry Foundation’s Glossary of Poetic Terms, “collage” is one of the few visual art terms they define. Perhaps this is because so many poets have also been collage artists.

This project-driven residency is open to artists and poets. Participants will work together to investigate the intersection of collage and poetry by exploring concepts of found poetry, blackout poetry, collage poems, haikus, centos, response collages, response poems, word scrambles, concrete poetry, scatter collage poems, and other poems and artwork that inhabit this world. Together we will create working definitions and document techniques."
