⚡️Upcoming Exhibition - Frankenstein Re-imagined: A Collage Exhibition - Thursday April 3rd at 6pm (PDT) - San Francisco Public Library, 100 Larkin Street ,San Francisco, USA⚡️

March 17, 2025 Anthony D Kelly

⚡️Upcoming Exhibition - ‘Frankenstein Re-Imagined: A Collage Exhibition '⚡️
Opening on Thursday, April 3rd at 6.00pm (PDT).
San Francisco Public Library,
Main Library - Arts, Music & Recreation Department,
4th Floor 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, CA 94102,
USA.
Exhibition runs through Monday, June 30th 2025. All Welcome.

I am delighted to be taking part in this upcoming exhibition at the beautiful San Francisco Public Library and its associated artists talk. Experience Mary Shelley's timeless masterpiece through the lens of contemporary collage artists. Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus is re-imagined in this exhibition, where literature and art converge to explore its enduring themes.

Free community collage tables will also be open to members of the public for the duration of April.

"Collage artists, with their unique ability to transcend scale, place, and history, are well-suited to giving us pictures that bring vintage texts into the contemporary moment." — Ric Kasini Kadour, Kolaj Institute Director.

⚡️⚡️ITS ALIVE⚡️⚡️
Artists interpret Shelley's novel in the context of today’s world, addressing:

⚡️Science and artificial intelligence: Echoing Shelley's cautionary tale, artists reflect on the ethical dilemmas of unchecked technological advancement.

⚡️Queerness and intersectional identities: The monster’s isolation becomes a metaphor for marginalization, offering a lens on contemporary social dynamics.

⚡️Narcissism and modern relationships: Victor Frankenstein’s self-absorption provides a framework for examining personal and societal disconnection.

This exhibition invites viewers to engage with Frankenstein in a new light, where past and present collide in striking visual form.

Featured Creatures Include:

Claire Dannenbaum (Eugene, Oregon, USA) | Emily Denlinger (Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA) | Suzanne Greenberg (New York, New York, USA) | David Edward Johnson (Skaneateles, New York, USA) | Marta Janik (Warsaw, Poland) | Anthony D Kelly (Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland) | Maureen Letton (San Francisco, California, USA) | Anissa Malady (San Francisco, California, USA) | Rebecca Steiner (Lyme, Connecticut, USA) | Jessica TranVo (Boston, Massachusetts, USA) | Anthony Naimo (Spruce Pine, North Carolina, USA) | Elzbieta Zdunek (Berlin, Germany)

It runs for the rest of the week.
So if you are in Galway City, then catch it if you can

For our annual Studio Members Exhibition, the Directors of MART Ciara Scanlan and Matthew Nevin are delighted to present a curated selection of Visual Artists working in our MART studio network in Dublin/Galway and MART Membership Artists.

MART is the largest supplier of independent, affordable space for the arts, cultural and creative community in Dublin city. We now support over 120 members in 6 studio buildings across Dublin. MART firmly believes in the self-determining artist and art organisation as vital societal and cultural catalyst. It is also a provocation on the role of action in the production of identities; individual and collective, local and global.

Supporting the professional development of our artists is a key part of our remit. Our artist members work across a diverse range of practices which encompasses painting, sculpture, print, drawing, illustration, digital art, photography, film and performance art. Providing the members with an opportunity to exhibit their work publicly gives MART a chance to showcase the expanse of artistic output we support while also allowing the artists to raise their profile, widen their access to audiences and sell their work.

🔸ANNOUNCEMENT: KOLAJ LIVE ONLINE EVENT: Get Ready for World Collage Day 2023🔸

This Sunday 26th February at 7PM GMT/ 2PM EST

In this online event, Ric Kasini Kadour will share the impetus for the day’s creation and its philosophy. We will introduce the 2023 World Collage Day Poster Artist Anthony D Kelly from Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland who will speak about the concept behind the poster and the series of postcards he designed for the day. Kelly and Kadour will be joined by others planning World Collage Day events and activities. Bring your ideas, questions, and thoughts about your own plans for World Collage Day 2023 to share. The Virtual Event is Free & Open to All.

Kelly writes: “There is something inherently beautiful, courageous and profoundly valuable in this creative drive to recompose alienated parts into new, wonderful and unified realities; especially in the face of potential missteps, mistakes and failures,” writes Kelly. “As an act collage invites us to hold a vital middle ground, to navigate juxtapositions, disjunctions, conflicts, contradictions and clashes of context, as we seek to move towards understanding, and the creation of something meaningful and new.”

To download a high-resolution PDF of the poster, find out more about taking part in World Collage Day 2023, or register for the Kolaj Live Online event: https://kolajinstitute.org/worldcollageday/
