In collaboration with the University of Galway Art Gallery and Project RARE, I am really excited to announce the launch of an upcoming exhibition of 'The Lexicon of Wonder' project.

This project featuring an exhibition, workshops, discussions and an artist talk is inspired by recent research into the emotions of Wonder & Awe and into the arts as a deep technology for evoking these states in both practitioner and audience.

Here is a little bit about the work:
”Wonder and Awe are complex emotions arising in response to experiences of profound beauty, connection, natural phenomena, or through bearing witness to the incredible capacities, courage or talents of other human beings. They can also arise at times of great personal crisis or fear such as witnessing the raw power of nature at a time of natural disaster.

Encountering reality through the states of Wonder and Awe can make an individual feel simultaneously small, and deeply connected to the world around them. They are emotions that inspire us to both transcend our own self interests and to delve deeply into our desire for greater understanding. They are in short the emotions of human discovery, and as such the unifying engines of the human curiosity behind philosophy, science and the arts.

For this exhibition I draw on the contemporary research of Psychologist Dacher Keltner and Philosopher Helen De Cruz into the importance of Wonder as a state of being. This new body of work is inspired by wonder, materials sourced from old children's scientific encyclopedias and contemporary collage techniques.

This project explores the arts themselves as a deep set of technologies that have the capacity to instillboth practitioners and viewers with a sense of Wonder at the boundless curiosity of scientific investigation and humanities deep connection with the natural world.”

I am delighted be taking part in the forthcoming “Come to me, here beside the River” Exhibition to be held during the NOLA Riverfest at the New Orleans Jazz Museum and organised by the Kolaj Institute. In Celtic Mythology many of our main rivers were considered to be Goddesses, full of power and mystery, and fonts of folklore in their own right. It was interesting to me the to consider the Mississippi in a similar vein.

About the Exhibition:
“Come to me, here beside the River” brings together nine International Collage Artists, each of whom offers a unique take on the Mississippi River as a dynamic force of culture. The exhibition will take place on the iron fence of the U.S. Mint, home of the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

This exhibition is also part of the Kolaj Institutes overarching “The River Bends, So Must We” project.

”The River Bends, So Must We” Project:
“The River Bends and So Must We” is a project of Kolaj Institute that reflects on the Mississippi River as a dynamic force of culture. In 2026 and 2027, we will bring together artists from the International Collage Community to make artwork that imagines and speaks to what lessons the River can teach us about our own humanity. We will consider the history of the River in New Orleans from primordial times, pre-Columbian civilization, and to the present moment. We will examine how the River is an economic force, a tool of power, a natural wonder, and source of magic. We will take up Maya Angelou’s (1928–2014) invitation in her poem, “On the Pulse of Morning”, and “Speak to humankind today. Come to me, here beside the River.”

I am always delighted to have my work selected for exhibition at The Linenhall Arts Centre. The upcoming “MAYO ARTISTS SHOW 2025” exhibition is open to the public from today and the official opening event takes place this Friday the 5th of December at 6pm. This is a dual venue event with a strong showing of work also officially opening at the Ballina Arts Centre this Saturday the 6th of December at 6pm.

This years exhibition was curated by the wonderful Aoife Banks and promises to be a visual feast showcasing work from artists based throughout the County.
I am really looking forward to seeing these shows!

If you follow my work then you know that I have a special interest in monsters, what they represent, how they can make us laugh, how they cause us fear, and what they can teach us about ourselves. So I am delighted to have dispatched some dastardly creatures to take part in this monstrous exhibition at the Kolaj Institute over the next two months.

Here is a little from the organizers:
“The world is run by monsters and you have to deal with them. Some of them run countries, some of them run banks, some of them run news corporations.” –Ken Livingstone

You mix fear (yellow) and anger (red) and you get a Big Orange Monster. What’s the emergency? There are a lot of Big Orange Monsters on the loose. Monsters only have power if you are afraid of them. So let’s create a space where we can slay our fear of Big Orange Monsters. Art helps us exorcise our demons. Monsters can be glorious and wonderful or horrible and evil. Let’s not cast aside the good Big Orange Monsters because some other Big Orange Monsters are well…unpleasant.

Experience Mary Shelley's timeless masterpiece through the lens of contemporary collage artists. Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus is re-imagined in this exhibition, where literature and art converge to explore its enduring themes.

Free community collage tables will also be open to members of the public for the duration of April.

⚡️Narcissism and modern relationships: Victor Frankenstein’s self-absorption provides a framework for examining personal and societal disconnection.

This exhibition invites viewers to engage with Frankenstein in a new light, where past and present collide in striking visual form.

About the Exhibition:

Mapping Stories | Scéalmhapáil' is a group exhibition at the Linenhall Arts Centre to mark the culmination of the Bolay Programme 2024. It features ten Mayo-based artists who have been mentored by curator Marianne O'Kane Boal over a three month period in preparation for this exhibition. The exhibition includes a diverse range of art forms; drawing, painting, sculpture, print, photography, film, audio and collage. These narratives within the exhibition are personal and collective, documenting self and other. They have an importance within County Mayo but equally contain a wider significance. Such multivalent approaches to mapping stories create a rich and nuanced series of works that reflect the shared discussion and reflection that was conducted in the preparation phase for the exhibition.

“Working with this group of artists and curating the exhibition has been a pleasure. It has been rewarding to individually mentor each of the ten artists and to explore a range of approaches and working methods. It has been important to have a common goal of the exhibition to prepare for and this has ensured that there is a collective purpose for the group but equally a place for each individual artist to reflect on their work and the theme. The Bolay programme delivered by the Linenhall Arts Centre in association with Visual Artists Ireland is an invaluable support to Mayo artists and it has been a joy to be part of”.
